ShihabWise: Showcasing at India’s Silicon Valley

Respected dignitaries and dear friends.

Some of you may be wondering why the name ‘ShihabWise’. It simply stands for the wisdom of Sayyid Muhammad Ali Shihab. I consider it an honor to have launch this mobile application at Bangalore, fondly called India’s Silicon Valley.

The student community was very dear to our late Sayyid. He was especially fond of their well being. Therefore, this student audience, comprising of delegates from colleges and universities from across the nation, is undoubtedly the most befitting venue to launch a mobile application based on his sagacious quotations.

ShihabWise: Torching Minds, not Bodies, with Ideas

Before I explain the ‘what’, allow me to brief you on the ‘why’ behind this app ShihabWise.

Seven years ago on this date, Dec 17, 2010, a vegetable seller in Tunisia set himself on fire to protest the tyrannical policies of his country’s then regime. The flames of that fire set the Arab Spring in motion. We all know about the chaotic state of affairs which spread in that part of the world. The common folk in some countries continue to pay the price even till this date.

Today, on the same date, as we celebrate the message and memories of Sayyid Shihab in the hi-tech city of Bangalore, ShihabWise is our way of RESPONDING, not REACTING, to the threats and challenges afflicting the human lives in this great Nation.

The present violence and hate-spewing conditions in our country is indeed depressing and at times challenging our very sanity of mind. But Sayyid Shihab, arguably one with of the finest and rarest Muslim leadership material in recent times, did not teach his community members to set their body on fire during such crises. Instead, he asked us to set fire to our thinking minds with illuminating education and inspiring ideas.

ShihabWise: Celebrating Pluralism

ShihabWise app, as you may have noticed, goes by the tagline ‘Appgrading Indian Pluralism’. India’s is a tradition of Pluralism and diversity. Pluralism is the true beauty of God’s creations. India is celebrated as a ‘garden’, not singly for rose or jasmine or lotus alone. However, in recent times, alternative narratives opposed to this Pluralistic legacy have been put forward, more so often forcefully. Uniformity in diet, art and music are imposed.

ShihabWise, which contains the quotations of Sayyid Shihab presented with soul-stirring illustrations, is our protest of disagreement to the intolerance and violence paralyzing our beloved Nation. In medium and content, ShihabWise strives to instill India’s rich traditions of Pluralism and Secularism in the minds of Indians, especially the youth.

ShihabWise: Global Collaboration for Tolerance

Designed in Dubai and developed in New York, this admirable app is a brilliant model of true global collaboration for realizing a common goal of promoting peace and tolerance in today’s self-destructive society.

ShihabWise: Fighting Tech-Inflicted Amnesia

There are 100+99 inspiring and illuminating quotations included in ShihabWise. It is designed with original art illustrations with the option to share/forward the quotes with friends. There is also option to configure daily/weekly reminders from quotations by and about Sayyid Shihab. This will significantly and constantly engage and energize the users with the visionary messages of Sayyid Shihab. In the age of technology-inflicted amnesia, reminders will, undoubtedly, help to focus on the important traditions of civilized living.

ShihabWise: Unapologetic Solidarity

Whatsoever may be the darkness around, there is still, I believe, a large number of Indians who believe India’s pluralism is not completely dead as yet. ShihabWise is a super shoutout for those hopeful superheroes of Pluralism.

Sayyid Shihab, the widely-respected statesman and leader of millions, appealed to more hearts in his life than most humanists combined. Your support for ShihabWise app would be a great service to that unapologetic practitioner of secular solidarity and pluralism.

Thank you
